The economic reform in China has prompted India to follow suit. In April 1992, I arrived in Delhi at the invitation of Vittle, then secretary of India's Department of Electronics. I visited major electronics firms in India during my one-week stay. I also gave a talk at the Department of Electronics on the feasibility of Taiwan-India collaboration. I believe that was the first interaction between Taiwan's IT industry and India.
According to Taiwan's representative to India, Baushuan Ger, Indian economic and trade authorities have been keen on forging ties with Taiwan, hoping to have Taiwanese firms construct plants in India. People may still be skeptical about the Indian market. India lacks infrastructure support and people question whether the Indian government is sincere in supporting Taiwanese investors.
In the past, Taiwan's customs brokers mostly worked indirectly in the Indian market. But Dimerco has now entered the Indian market, with more than 40 employees working locally. Dimerco's business in India is growing steadily along with the growth of the Indian economy. As a customs brokerage firm from Taiwan, it certainly knows how influential Taiwan's electronics industry is and how its logistics works.
