Many next-generation customers, including cloud service providers, are shifting their upgraded computing platforms from traditional platforms to Artificial Intelligence (AI) computing platforms ahead of time, despite the fact that the conversion will take time and affect the pace of procurement. Lenovo CEO Yang Yuanqing is optimistic about the future demand of the industry, emphasizing that the demand of next-generation customers is at the juncture of new and old dynamics.

"We are actively responding to customers' purchases due to the popularity of large language models (LLMs)," according to Yang, quoted in Chinese media reports.

Chen Zhenkuan, vice president of Lenovo Group and general manager of Lenovo's Infrastructure Business Server Division in China, revealed that AI servers are currently in short supply. Lenovo's two newest AI servers, which were just introduced at the recent Computing Power Conference in China, have received many orders, with some of them even lined up until 2024.

Chen said that the changes in the AI algorithmic model have caused the demand for AI computing power to enter a stage of explosive growth. Since 2018, with the launch of the large Transformer models, the computing power is no longer doubling every 18 to 20 months like in the past but is now growing hundreds of times per year.

In response to the current demand for AI computing power, Lenovo has recently announced two new AI server products: the Lenovo WA7780 G3 AI Large Model Training Server and the Lenovo WA5480 G3 AI Training and Push Server, which have been receiving orders since their launch, and have also benefited major suppliers such as Intel and NVIDIA.

It is worth noting that NVIDIA's H800 is out of stock in the Chinese market, and Lenovo's strong alliance with Intel did not stop at AI computing solutions in the cloud, but the two factories are accelerating the Meteor Lake processor, which will be released in 2023, to push forward the development and innovation of AI experiences.

Chinese media cited supply chain information in August that Lenovo's upcoming AI PC, which uses Intel's most advanced processor, not only has powerful computing power and advanced AI technology but also brings innovative interaction and visual experience to fully meet the demands of the new generative AI workload.
